Yeah I just finished it and hoo boy. Shouldn’t he be better at this? Really doesn’t speak too well of anyone who talked with the guy for more than 5 minutes and still fell for his bullshit. Nothing about that bro-faced douchebag screams “I can be trusted with millions of dollars and am definitely not a con man”. I

Yeah, I don’t get how anyone is still saying, “Well, the Bane voice didn’t really work.” Bring up the movie with anyone who’s seen it, and within five minutes, at least one of you will have done your own impression of the voice. It’s memorable and weird and incredibly fun.

I get that if you cast an actor as pretty as Ben Barnes you don’t want to make him too ugly, but Frank did WAAAAY more damage to Billy’s face on that carousel mirror than just those few cute scars visible in the trailer.

Agreed. I also really like the moment during the big battle when Hawkeye shoots an arrow at Loki’s eye (as he specifically promised to do), we follow it with an implausible zoom lens, Loki somehow catches it at the last moment and flashes a shit-eating grin, and then it explodes because Hawkeye wasn’t taking any

I can only speak from my own experience, but I think your concerns about first-time watchers aren’t entirely founded.

You mean he might have to watch Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor Ragnarok? I’m thinking he could probably survive that.

Spider Man was way, way better than Aquaman.

You're being cynical. This was a fantastic year in film. Just not necessarily the loudest or most popular films.

I’m still bummed Sorry to Bother You didn’t get any noms, although I understand why (radical politics, too bonkers) but it was easily the most interesting and original movie I’ve seen in ages.

Just as the Golden Globes started to matter, they did a nice little one-two with Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody to remind everyone exactly what they’d been watching.

I know these options aren’t “cool,” but the library and Netflix’s disc services are both far better options than any single streaming site.

I was genuinely surprised Sorry to Bother You wasn’t on here. I kept assuming it was just further down the list.

Murthi’s dismissal of Sorry to Bother You’s racial dimension aside, calling it “Capitalism Sucks: The Movie” should not even register as a criticism. Not when what passes for criticism of capitalism in American movies is usually so non-committal and shrouded in metaphor that it loses any teeth it might have had.

I had hopes that my ability to recognize how good Black Panther is might lend some credibility to my assurance that Infinity War, however impressive it is as a Branding Event, is not very much of a movie (cleverly disguised as a LOT of movie).

And, as always with complaints like this, I would LOVE to see your boldly un-PC list.

Or is the problem more that you disapprove of a bunch of movies you haven’t seen? That couldn’t be it, could it?

It’s such a shocking omission. I was reading the list and got to number two and was just like “Wow, I guess they put Sorry To Bother You” at number one, that’s pretty impressive and then... welp.

Haven’t finished everything I want to see yet, (Beale street not even out near me yet) but some of my favorites that didn’t make the list: Thunder Road, MI Fallout, Spider-Verse, Widows, Annihilation, and The Endless.

But Widows!

Was Inifinty War good, or just big?

I think Sorry to Bother You deserves to be on the list if only for its political commentary and probably my favorite plot twist of the year.
