OK. So Tesla does have a fixed-ratio transmission. But this also means there is no shifting of this transmission. Not sure about drivetrain losses for fixed-ratio transmission, but complexity and reliability problems are certainly related to changing ratios whether through shifting or continuously.

The transmission is a dead end technology required to compensate for inherent deficiencies of the internal combustion engine. With a manual transmission one at least can have fun.
