I voted for my union to maintain what I had, not to gain more.  If they felt like benefits were going away or more freelancers were being used, it may have sparked the organizing effort. Conditions don't have to be poor.  Organizing is always a good idea.

You are the one failing to grasp facts.  She did not say that her son was doing anything illegal.  She did not say her son was a danger to others.  What were the cops supposed to do?  

It will result in fewer fire arm deaths but it will not result in fewer deaths. Look at the homicide rate or suicide rates in Australia or England. They are not affected at all by the firearms ban.
