I had one to drive. It had a 4.0L V8. The 1st gen was a luxury cruiser done right. Fast, good suspension (with Autobahn package) and good city/hwy fuel economy when tuned up (got 20mpg). It’s too bad the head gasket failed in it, otherwise it would still be in the family.

It puts a grin on my face every time I see GM doing QA on them on M-99 and I-496 outside the factory in Lansing. Every day on my way to work I see one of these with the plastic still on the body being tested. Before going on the car carrier, the luckiest factory workers in town gets to test drive these on Lansing…

I loved my parents’ Aurora and seeing this wagon prototype makes me happy. The wagon gets rid of the 1 flaw that the aurora had (besides the head gasket on the Northstar) which was the tiny trunk opening and the tiny pass-through to the back seat. The problem with all of this is that no wifi device today or in the near future would be able to use this V2V band. 5 Ghz unlicensed wifi doesn’t work above channel 165 (5825 MHz) and 802.11p (V2V) is already defined by IEEE.

I second this to a point. However, carbon fiber made with epoxy resin doesn't exactly shatter, it splinters like wood (hence why both carbon fiber and wood are composites). Unfortunately for us in MI, even if Snyder vetoed it the legislature would have overridden it since there was only 1 nay vote in both the house and senate for this law. They are common in MI now. In fact, whenever a left turn signal is replaced, the new one has a flashing left turn arrow and sometimes replaces the green arrow (in sparse traffic).
