This rant alone makes me kind of love him.

Also, nepo babies only really annoy me when they can’t acknowledge the benefits it gave them, or if they try to give off a working class/indie vibe. Judd Apatow putting his children into half a dozen movie roles that he wrote for them just for Maude to turn around and say it

Social media websites and apps shouldn’t be held responsible for things posted on their platform. They should absolutely be liable for things that their algorithm recommends to users. Hardcore echo chambers are purposely being created by these companies in order to increase divisiveness and drive traffic. This has had

a dolly allegedly hit and killed a homing pigeon—which, like all pigeons, are apparently a protected species in Italy

More evidence that the “30 under 30" lists aren’t actually indicative of talent or intelligence. It’s just rich kids with connections nominating themselves for marketing purposes.

I think that person is trolling a bit when they say Velma looks like Steven Universe, but there IS some truth to the idea of a lot of cartoons from that era looking alike. There’s even a name for the specific style:

Extra relevant since this was originally tweeted on 1/6/21

Oliver’s death caused the pandemic. I’m sure of it.

I agree with you, there’s nothing wrong with it. I’m just pointing out that in October, Jez framed it as problematic when John Mayer sat next to Kiernan Shipka during a group dinner because they have a 23 year age difference, but this week they’re yas kweening Angelina Jolie for having a group dinner with a man 21

So are we considering this problematic, or is it only women that we’re infantalizing?

Right? Some of the fury about it is just full on unhinged. You’d think Smith hit him with a brick based on these reactions

Yeah I might even moan after

Yes, but that was still decades after he was very publicly convicted of the rape of a 13 year old girl and fled the country to evade justice. Everybody in the room that night was very familiar with the story, and the vast majority of the people that were clapping for him are still very active in the industry today.

I think it’s a fairly safe assumption that most people in the room that night were drinking - it’s a fancy gala. Those go hand-in-hand with open bars. His eyes and body language while yelling afterwards were a dead giveaway as well.

I’m not defending it at all, I already made that pretty clear. But I also think it’s a mistake to pretend that a single open handed slap is equivalent to something like a punch. One is meant to demean and embarrass, and the other is meant to cause actual damage.

Hot take: while it was rude, inappropriate and unprofessional of him, and I understand a temporary ban, it was still not even fucking close to as big of a deal as people made about it. The hyperbole is insane - everyone was acting like Smith beat Rock to a pulp.

Remember in 30 Rock when Liz found out Tracy never left NYC because of the pizza box in his video calls?

There was one single scene in Avatar 2 (literally the first scene, even) where they attacked a supply train and Jake stole some guns because, well, he’s a marine. That is then followed by over three hours of the good guys not using guns while the comically over the top villains use guns at every opportunity.

“Stanley Kubrick Sure Seems to Still Be Fetishizing Nuclear Weapons in ‘Dr. Strangelove’”

I’m fairly sure that the “it needs to make $2 billion to break even!” is a combination of misunderstanding and just flat out misinformation. He made a comment on how it had to be the “third or fourth highest grossing film” almost a decade ago. People keep referring to the CURRENT box office leaders instead of those
