I don’t have any problems with the tone or atmosphere. WB definitely wanted the latter movies to fit with the tone set by PoA, but I personally disliked Cuaran’s overt stylization.

Yes! Why are none of my “I actually want that” Apps available on PS4!?
Thank you! It was overly stylized and didn’t fit with the first two films at all. I don’t know why they had to keep switching the creative team, it did not help the series.
Great points! People always conflate conflict and stakes with death and injury. Not all stories (and games) need to be about fighting. I love the idea of a Superman game that includes combat mechanics but the central conflict is not combat-related.
Good call! What do you think is the best fan cut of the prequels?
Dude, that’s Oma Desala from Stargate. Deep cut, man.
I watched Star Trek: The Motion Picture as a kid, without having seen the TOS, and thought it was amazing! I still think that the basic plot is genius, and the reveal (spoilers...) that ‘V’ger’ is Voyager was mind-blowing! Underrated film that was a hell of a lot more entertaining that 2001.
Yep! There were so many better ways to handle that situation. In a situation where one actor (the machines) has more agency = that actor has more responsibility; their decision to imprison the majority of the human population, and then exterminate the remaining humans, is unethical and (frankly) inefficient and…
Exactly. Didn’t people used to just be stuck at the airport, waiting? (That’s not cool, but at least it’s not...this.) There were so many better ways to handle this. The raw aggression and vindictive cruelty fostered in parts of the U.S. law enforcement system is terrifying.
We used to find and trust, within reason, a human being that offered insight and criticism we ourselves might not have had. Now, in vain, we worship faceless data metrics.
Bond needs more Mission: Impossible right now - more jokes, more set-pieces, more fun. Bond used to be fun. As for the gravitas and boredom in Bond (if I understand you correctly)...yeah, and that might be why McQuarrie passed. The current franchise is too busy navel-gazing to have fun.
Maybe this will result a Bond film that’s not a boring mess? I can’t say Danny Boyle’s recent efforts have inspired much enthusiasm, and I hope for a genuine reset; McQuarrie might have at least brought a little verve back to the franchise!
Not bad! They REALLY needed a Princess Leia movie, but after Solo who knows. I have zero faith in Lucasfilm/Disney’s current efforts, so... Ah well.
Amazing and unexpected news! I don’t know much about Doom Patrol, but I am READY for Brendan Fraser!
So true! What is this obsession with padding episodes on streaming? Extraneous footage that should have ended up on the cutting room floor created weird, disconcerting bubbles of silence between jokes; even the (especially earlier in the series) ‘chase scenes’ felt off - propelled only by music, with staggered, almost…
The pacing was definitely off. It might need more time to find its footing though; a lot of my favorite comedies seemed to be strongest in their second season as the cast and writing team gelled.
I started on FF.net and never made the jump to AO3, which I find an incomprehensible web of unnecessary, gatekeeping jargon. I drift in and out of reading stories set in a few fandoms, to this day. Now I feel really old, ha! ...Neopets old, not Geocities old.
Sorry, right, AO3... *looks around guiltily* Or have we moved on?
...heads over to FanFiction . Net...enters “Buffy x Avengers...”
