So true! Man, I did not like Countdown. 52 was great, though.

See, problem is this just reminds me that her current costume is a lot better than the (first images) of her movie suit.
I always hoped there was room for Damien and Drake. It was rare, but there were a few moments (Snyder wans’t bad at this) when they felt like bickering brothers: too-cool-for-school older brother Grayson; studious over-achiever and classic middle child Drake; wild, arrogant prodigy Damien. The odd one out is always…
You’re luckier than I am, for Batman at least; I started really reading comics with the previous reboot - the Nu52. ;)
It’s funny, my first major Batman stories were first Morrison and then Snyder, and I loved every damn page, but King and Tynion’s subtly different approach (without throwing anything out or trying to reinvent the wheel, like you said) worked really well. I loved Tynion’s first two books on the title.
I loved Tynion’s run for the first ten issues, in particular; as a new fan who started reading comics in earnest with the Nu52 (it’s not my fault, I’m young!) this was basically my introduction to Tim Drake. [SPOILER...pun intended...will follow.] It was actually much harder to stay interested when Drake “died” and…
Very true! His style also doesn’t work well when rushed, too many messy lines—I speculate he works best (and takes more time) on showier, posing shots.
It’s weird. Half the time Romita Jr’s style seems to look great, then the other half of the time it looks plain terrible. He has some high risk, pass-fail style. Or he’s created some weird optical illusion.
I love Runaways, the first comic I ever collected in the little “pocket sized” editions sold at kids’ bookstores. (I kept trying to like Y! It just lost me in the middle each time I tried.)
Paper Girls is amazing! It also explores how knowledge of the future affects your past self, even if it seems like your future self isn’t really giving any advice, and reexamining your past to know what to do in the present.... It’s a timey-wimey, wibbley-wobbley identity crisis. Man, I hope the Stony Stream girls…
Absolutely! Amazing. Paper Girls, Runaways, Saga, what a run! (CAn’t say I could ever get in to Y, tried the first few volumes but it didn’t click with me in the same way.)
Well, act-u-ally....
Sabriel and Touchstone from the Old Kingdom Series by Garth Nix!
Awesome! I’m so glad they got a chance to finish off the series, hopefully with a neat bow!
Looks awesome, everything I want in an action movie right now - including a brooding, brutal Henry Cavill. He was fantastic in the (underrated, in my humble opinion) The Man From Uncle. I’m in!
If only half of these “original” shows were any good. Frankly, it’s a bad sign when all the best ones are licensed from other producers. It feels like Netfli executives have no clue how to curate or develop a network (rather, they just want volume of content like an internet company...meaning that 99% is complete and…
So true; all I wanted from Netflix was a stable of classic TV shows that I could watch without having to pop a new DVD in the player.... Now it’s “1000 new ‘original’ shows!”...and 90% are total garbage. Sigh. Hulu seems a little better, but here’s a trick! The library still stocks DVDs. It’s like a free Netflix!
I like it; while, yes, it’s been done before, this is comics. That’s par for the course. I’ve enjoyed most of the recent DCAU movies, and “Death of Superman” has a critical advantage over “Doomsday” in that we have a greater familiarity with the JL from previous films and get to see just how powerful Doomsday is when…
Too true! Funnily enough, I thought the same but of Archer Vice - some great moments, but wrapped in boring. “Your mileage may vary.” Might have to watch that season again.
Really? Huh, that was my favorite season of Archer since...season two, I think. It actually felt meaningful (as in the story had meaning to the characters) and like a real adventure.
