I feel like very slowly over the last few years practical effects have been making a revival. Not obvious, but subtly becoming more important again. I was worried Jurassic World would kill that, but hopefully Star Wars is a big boost.

If there is a practical-effects revival, Max Max: Fury Road will deserve as much credit as anything, given the praise that was (rightly) heaped on that movie for its look and feel (and, of course, that it was an unexpected box office smash hit.)
