Exactly. It’s a living fossil because it looks a lot like the species we see in the fossil record. There’s no expectation that it hasn’t changed at all, especially genetically. When I taught evolutionary biology, we always made those qualifiers.

I’ve never assumed that “living fossils” had no evolutionary adaptations - that would go against every concept in evolutionary biology. Mutations and other changes to the genome are going to happen and they will get selected for or against over time.
An analysis of coelacanth DNA suggests its genome has experienced some significant changes in recent evolutionary history, potentially dispelling the popular image of these iconic fish as being “living fossils.”
I’m just hoping for at least one knock-down-beat-down where Bucky beats some ass out of Sam’s sass. It’s not that I think Sam’s a bad guy or isn’t worthy of the shield and the name, but some days I just want to strangle him.
So you’re telling me I’m getting 8/9 episodes of Bucky and Sam sniping at each other, brutal fight scenes and over the top action?! It’s not even my birthday!
There is a Topps card from a few days back that shows him in full. I09 had an article about it. It also shows Zemo’s new getup. I’m not gonna say more than that in case you want to avoid as much info as you can before the show is released. I did think it looked quite good.
Sam and Bucky in couples therapy is a nice touch. But which agency is providing it?
Me too (re: Tae-ho’s ending story).
I just watched. Like James said it was like two stories mashed together, and like Watcherzero, I’d also like to know more about Sullivan’s backstory. Personally, I thought the fakeout ending was kinda cheating, though maybe it should be expected. But all in all, I enjoyed it. And the closure of Tae-Ho’s story somehow…
Yes! Thank you. I would have been perfectly happy (perhaps more so) if they’d just left it alone with that sacrificial twist. What happened at the end felt a tad like a focus-group epilogue, but it was well done.
Having just finished watching this movie, it feels like it wants to be a mashup of “Firefly” and “The Expanse.”
I know I’m beating a dead horse at this point, but look no further than this Dead Kennedys ditty to know that Nazis have been an issue in the punk scene for about as long as the genre has existed.
Apart from the order of nine angles thing, this article didn’t actually provide any information about what to actually look for. It basically just said the Google bands, read their lyrics, and look at their shirts for tacit hints of Nazism, without actually telling us what those hints may be.
Both scenes grew out of a similar background and early on there was a priority on being provocative for being provocative’s sake. Given the timing, one of the more provocative things you could do is reference Nazis. Often times this was tongue in cheek.
Thing is though that this all coincided with the rise of actual…
Didn’t we already have an MCU Enchantress in Agents of SHIELD?
What pisses me off about these schmucks is how often they call up and want to bundle in cell-phones, cable tv, yadda yadda. My standard response is ‘get good at delivering what you promised, THEN we’ll talk.
There is a long and hideous history of nazi punk bands. Not just punks flirting with nazi imagery to be edgy. Actual fascists. See Skrewdriver. White Boss, Dentiste and half the hardcore bands from Huntingdon Beach in the early 80s for reference
I’m paying $90 for 50 mbps. I get 15. It’s still the best service in the area.
Those REC’s that are pivoting to being IPS’s are definitely providing service. The REC in the NW Oklahoma county where I grew up began offering dial-up service in the 90's when the nearest AOL pop was a long-distance call. They created a plan, took it to vote and once it was passed they did a pretty decent job of…
I have a client, in Canada, who despite all warnings to the contrary, built his dream home in East Narnia. As a consulting radiologist, internet connectivity was paramount for him to be able to work. Guess what? A 14.4 dial up modem would be faster than the DSL Telus has provided, after assuring him they could…
