From what I’ve read and heard from someone I know that works with sex abuse victims, rehabilitation is almost impossible for pedophiles. They’re there to kept away from kids, basically. But still, we shouldn’t condone violence against prisoners.

Yeah, that would be one thing. I know someone whose parents did that for drugs, which is horrific. But Fogle’s argument is complete garbage.

As awful as even cartoon kiddie porn is, if there was proof that it helped pedophiles keep their hands to themselves, and it was voiced by adults... but I don’t know how you could study that.

80 victims. Fucking hell. I can’t even.

They’re the least likely to be *caught* committing the same crime again, which is what that recidivism stat is about- returning to prison. That doesn’t mean they’re the least likely to reoffend, or to attempt to reoffend.

I like Blazing Saddles better as a movie, but as a way to comemarate Gene Wilder, I agree that Young Frankenstein would be a better.

We should, as a society, not only tolerate but welcome and embrace the rights of all people to live equally and without harassment regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, political belief, etc. Any Nazis and KKK members who want to live peacefully side-by-side with their black, Jewish, gay etc neighbors and

Awesome! My brother donated his broken-down old car to the fire department for the same purpose, and got to watch firemen light his car on fire and cut it apart to practice rescue.

I live in the exurbs, and I can’t tell you how many old barns I see that are falling apart, covered in ivy, have a tree growing in them, etc etc. They’d be much better off turned into some hipster’s coffee table than being a (presumably unused) eyesore crumbling on the edge of someone’s market garden.

Can they? Does their school system allow kids to just quit their neighborhood public school and pick a different public school?

It’s pretty normal for emergency exits to trigger alarms, both because in an actual emergency you want to warn everyone, and also you want to discourage frivolous use of those exits in non-emergencies. I’m not saying it was their fault this happened, but if an alarm had gone off and the theater been evacuated there’s

Yeah, it’s pretty terrible of them. As a small business owner, I am 100% positive they have general liability insurance in case of lawsuits. I carry a $1 million policy, for a mom -and-pop kind of establishment with one location and 2.5 employees. A big chain will definitely have more. Yeah, their premiums will go up

IIRC, mine was twice that, but still a bargain in comparison to ITT.

Yeah, I just looked and ITT Tech charges $18k/year in tuition alone. That’s at least 4x what you’d pay at community college.

Or, for that matter, who staffs the museums around the country. I don’t think the higher ups at the Smithsonian or Met are eating ramen.

The world’s #1 employer of math majors is the NSA. IIRC, Wall Street is other big (group of) employers. So those are always career options, if you don’t mind selling your soul a little.

While we’re at it, let’s get rid of STEM too in favor of trade degrees. Successful plumbers and auto mechanics make six figures, and they don’t even need a four-year degree, let alone graduate degree like you do in STEM fields.

You don’t personally know them so they don’t exist?

Community colleges also teach a lot of working adults and tend to offer night, weekend, and online classes (also, childcare) to cater to them. I think they just don’t do as good a job at promoting that.

Yeah, in Maryland, if you get an AA from a state community college with a certain GPA, you’re guaranteed admission to any state university, and they’ll take most/all of the credits (though they might count it as an elective credit and make you retake the class).
