The violence in The Last Of Us wasn’t justifiable because Naughty Dog was particularly somber or serious or particularly self-aware or even because the game was well-crafted, but because it was absolutely vital to telling the story of Joel and his journey to realizing his true nature. All of the brutality of the game

Speaking solely for myself; I ‘taint bothered by the violence one bit. The preview just didn’t really show me anything intriguing enough to justify continuing the series after the concise, well-resolved narrative of the first one.

Part of the problem I think is the type of anime they try to adapt, and that most studios seem unwilling to go all in on making it look right.
