Sydelle Noel has joined the cast of season six as Samandra Watson, an “intelligent” and “poised” FBI Agent with a “non-nonsense attitude” investigating Oliver Queen’s ties to the Green Arrow.

The wrongness of that proposition is rivaled only by its irrelevance to the point in dispute.

Who’s actually “dense”, I wonder...?

Gotham’s population is so realistic and cynical that to suggest you’d arrest The Batman would be political suicide for Dent

Given how little Jon appeared to be attracted to Daenerys in the scene, it’s clear his suppression of his feeling was incredibly succesful.

MLS has a much brighter future than the NHL, even if that’s not saying much.

Again—neither does quantum physics. That doesn’t make it “mystical.”

Sure, it’s “magic,” but defined in such a way as it follows predictable rules, with predictable consequences, and can be learned through seemingly-straightforward study and experimentation. That “magic” differs from Newtonian physics doesn’t suddenly make it any more “mystic” than quantum physics.

Except that Dr. Strange doesn’t even leave it that “mystical.” The Ancient One refers to magic as basically “source code” for reality, i.e., sufficiently advanced science.

You can—though let’s not overstate Fury Road’s success when its domestic theatrical run barely exceeded the production budget—it’s just much less likely to be successful, and whatever success it does enjoy is going to have a much lower ceiling than an alternative film that isn’t esoteric or bizarre. Just look at how

Fury Road was hardly a film executive’s wet dream, though. It did pretty well in the U.S. (21st in domestic gross for 2015), but it only made $378M globally, compared to your typical Tranformers dreck that goes gangbusters worldwide on top of a healthy domestic gross because they’re sapped of all uniqueness.

Are you kidding?

Yea but he’s still white, and ergo boring and whiny.

Well, she was in the trailer, so . . . probably?

Hermione being a walking, talking deus ex machina makes her less of a sidekick than Ron?

And you would be right, which has no place in an io9 ranking.

Your mistake is in assuming the author set out to provide a coherent, consistent definition of “sidekick,” rather than an arbitrary excuse for not considering Strong Female Characters™ for inclusion in this list because being a sidekick is demeaning.

Forget it Jake, it’s io9.

Inconceivable that an epic story could be told in less than two hours. That’s why Dunkirk was such hot garbage.
