That’s also the problem with condos. I recently bought a sfh. After downpayment of 5%, my mortgage is like 300k. My escrow payment is $1850(including $100 pmi) a month. Your friends must pay a ton in condo fees and/or their taxes are just crazy high.

Yeah, she is definitely paying at least as much as she was when renting when all the other taxes and fees are included. Sure she is building equity so she is saving money that way but that isn’t reflected in her monthly payments.

Also, mortgage insurance is for life now if you do an FHA. Only way to get out of it is to refinance to a new loan(ideally after getting 20% equity to avoid PMI on that loan).

I’m sad about my Pirates, but also not surprised this is happening. I knew by the beginning of the year when we made no moves to upgrade over the off-season that this would most likely be the course.

For my 15 year old vehicle, Arlington charged me no personal property tax(under 2k blue book value). Alexandria still charged me like $20 a year for it. It was ridiculous. I didn’t stay in Alexandria much longer. Some of my friends pay hundreds of dollars for their personal property taxes.

The taxes on this list are also deceptive. If you account for things like personal property tax then the taxes in Arlington and Alexandria go up, especially if you have a new car.

I find it funny that some cities here are located right next(literally border each other) to each other yet the Weather is rated differently.

what’s interesting is that DC has really low property tax rates, but is listed as high on this list. Since homes are expensive here, I wonder if they are taking the average cost of the taxes rather than the tax rate into account. DC does have a high sales tax.
