My Catholic grandma is still angry that she and my grandpa, who converted to Catholicism for her (from Anglicanism, which is basically the same thing) weren’t allowed to marry at the altar of the church and had to get married in one of the side chapels. It’s been seventy years. So yeah, she would agree with you.

I also don’t believe that she has read the Bhagavad Gita.

That is not cool.

I’ve recently started seeing dudes on motorcycles wearing those half masks that cover their mouths and make their lower face look like a skull. It’s awful. I hope you don’t encounter those.

I was TERRIFIED of my sister’s porcelain dolls until well into my teenage years. Uggghhh. Cold dead eyes.

Did you ever have a bad experience in a corn maze? I’m not trying to pry, I just took my kids into a corn maze last month and I could tell my daughter was getting really worried that we would get lost in there forever and hoped I wasn’t scarring her. She’s pretty sensitive.

Did you see The Princess Bride at an impressionable age? Because I feel that could do it.

Oh totally, there is a very clear difference.

Agreed. I don’t like when she randomly scares people. I do, however, like when she sends her producer into haunted houses, just because I love how he talks himself through it. “I see you. You did your thing. Stop. No. You’re there. I see you.” I find it charming.

One time my son fell down the stairs in front of me and I was too far behind him to catch him and I remember just slow-motion standing there at the top of the stairs screaming. He was fine, but it was a really disappointing reaction.

My husband startles me ALL THE TIME and he’s always so confused and just says: “I mean, I live here. You know I live here.” My daughter used to startle me all the damn time as a toddler too. She would get out of her bed in the evening and just fucking LURK.

Agreed! I hear this brought up all the time like it’s a legitimate concern that North Americans might misuse this word. My great-aunt used “fanny” and she was born in 1912. I literally know no one else who uses the word.

That was really interesting, thank you.

I LOVE TANA FRENCH. She is so good.

I’m a fan of The Castle, so I usually just ask Australians how the serenity is.

I had some Australians make me say “Sorry, Anne!” like Gilbert Blythe. But now that just makes me sad. I’m still not over Jonathan Crombie.

I used to do canoe tours and guided hikes at a resort here in Canada and anytime I said “out and about” I noticed Americans would giggle.

No but I just Googled her and she is extremely angelic looking

Okay, now it’s going to sound like I’m embellishing the story, but from what I remember (this happened in the late ‘90s) my cousin was seeing Tessa (whatever her real name is) and her ex-boyfriend got jealous and smashed a wine bottle over my cousin’s head. He still has a scar. I swear I am not making this up.

I would care deeply about that. One of my cousins briefly dated the girl Joey Jeremiah cheated on Caitlin with and that was very exciting for me.
