Well put!
Well put!
That makes sense. Still, I think the trend described in this article is larger than just the professional-speak used colloquially by cops and MDs, etc.
Hm. This would support HaHaYouFool's theory (elsewhere in this thread) that anyone moving away from the white, straight, protestant normative center is more object than subject. Tamir Rice wasn't a boy, he was The Black Male.
It sounds like - from this thread - that other folks have heard it more recently too. I've never come across it myself though. Interesting twist!
Hm. I guess there were safety/privacy issues prompting the rule. I guess that use would also fall into the more formal category, where people are described according to their biological sex, like police reports, etc.
Well, it would contradict the theory that men say "females" to dehumanise women by stripping them of their subjectivity according to a sexist agenda. Because also saying "males" is just dehumanizing generally and not necessarily sexist.
If you read the thread, you will see that godessoftransitory has offered an explanation for this.
Really? Which university?
Well, your experience counters the theory offered here: That using "females" is a sexist attempt to strip women of their subjectivity.
"As Nigatu and Clayton note—we almost never refer to men as "males" in this way."
Yusss!
I really enjoyed this show! Well, the first season at any rate. Spoilerish below...
heh. you really dug your heels in on this one.
What Von Clyd said. I think you can invite the cat in to stay. The folks down the street seem to have their hands full, can't give the cat the attention and needs, and so would probably appreciate it. If not, they know where you live, right?
I do have a rescue dog right now, who came along when I met my partner. Puppy is also very lovable. When he passes I'll probably have to move on to parrots...or box tortoises...who apparently live as long as we do, thus sparing me the risk of further heart ache.
Guh. Here's another terrible story:
Also: you said bummed out!
Welll, they do dress Marnie in Ann Taylor, which clearly signifies her prudishness.
