I think you're right that Zoe's upfront about who she is now, but I feel like her "secret depths" would have been in what drove her to become the terrifying badass.  It doesn't seem to be just her personality; she's not a particularly aggressive person until she needs to be.  I suspect we may have eventually learned…

I've always wondered what they did with the ambulance afterward, though the answer most likely is simply that they sold it first chance they got.
