I was lucky enough to photograph one of the pre-production Rapid cars at the Louwman Museum:

Ganz story maybe fascinating, but I would call it a stretch to call that car a progenitor of the VW. The engine is inline, transverse and ahead of the rear wheels, nothing like the VW’s longitudinal pancake engine behind the rear wheels. Also the VW had a bellypan chassis, where Ganz’ car had a backbone chassis. And…

I second that emotion. I kinda hate to see that disappear - it’s like when art restorers remove the painting on top to reveal another below; a creation will be lost.
