I wouldn’t doubt it, but just from looking at her, my first thought wasn’t that she was black. And maybe in her immediate or distant family, there isn’t anything that may indicate she can identify as a black woman ya know? I’m part colombian and I know I have black family members in my ancestry, but I don’t identify…

It’s possible she maybe had a tan and to brooklyn becky, it automatically made her black to her? I’m trying to wrap my head around it myself. Perhaps the becky is so racist that she thinks anyone not lily-white is black?

I feel like it depends on the latino’s general ancestry. I know my background is pretty standard (indigenous + european) so I don’t really identify as white or black in terms of race, which is why I focus more on my cultural identity. Others, however, are clearly more white, indigenous, or black while being latino so…

I think Obregon identifies with her culture rather than her race, but she could also be differentiating between being African American and Black. My guess, totally could be wrong!
