Be interested to know how much of the show Jerry West has actually watched.
He doesn’t come over very well at the start, to point that he is introduced with a caption along the lines of calling him an asshole.
But he’s evolved into a far more sympathetic character. A man like the real West who clearly loves the team

If I were Jerry West I would simply be happy no one ever brings up that I was the GM of the Grizzlies, and on my way out the door I gave Pau Gasol to the Lakers (my former employer) for peanuts.

Doesn’t seem like you actually watched the show either as there was a scene where West was all by himself alone in his trashed house, really, really, drunk. Or that other scene where he smashed up the MVP trophy in a drunken rage. Or when he snapped that golf club in two in a another fit of rage. There’s a reason why

Kareem seems to think the show is boring, which, okay, he’s entitled to his opinion; but the critical mass doesn’t seem to agree with him and I’m not sure why his criticism is any more useful to me than any professional critic’s. Historical accuracy does not necessarily (or even usually) translate into good drama. I

He’s 83. Can hardly blame a man for being concerned that this is the image that will live on forever after he’s gone. I wouldn’t “leave it alone” either.

“HBO’s not wrong in the slightest” is, well, one way to put it? No one is saying it’s a documentary. What people are saying (and not just West, but pretty much everyone who ever worked with him) is that the show is very wrong in its portrayal.

I dunno if I can entirely hate any phenomenon that leads to less gushing about Tarantino from obnoxious rich boys.

I don’t know that I agree! I’d have to watch them again, but the main thing I remember in the Nolan movies is Bruce giving a homeless man a coat once, and the League of Shadows trying to bring down the city by influencing the economy of the city, nudging Gotham towards a dystopian hellhole.

In Nolan’s movies, Batman’s

“the vast majority are self-made. A study by Ernst & Young found that nearly 90% of millionaires are likewise self-made.”

Was odd that Gotham had Dickensian style rats eating your fingers orphanages in 2002.

I’m confused if the author is actually seen Batman Begins. “Where is all your money in helping the city?” is practically all Rachel is asking of Bruce, and the movie makes a point of saying that’s what his parents were all about. It’s shaming him for not continuing their legacy.

I definitely appreciated the movie’s willingness to interrogate, even if only slightly, the idea that a wealthy man’s best use of time is to use his fortune to beat up muggers. It ain’t deep, but it’s better than, say, Nolan’s trilogy and it’s casual/accidental neoconservative politics (Batman has to stop the Occupy

They did, and it’s one of the things I don’t like about The Batman or Tim Burton’s Batman movies. In the ‘89 Batman, Bruce hosts a party (the one where he meets Vicki Vale) where no one seems to know who he is. Bruce has a playboy persona for a reason, to throw off suspicion that he could ever be a vigilante that

I haven’t seen this yet but my initial thought reading this article was that Batman absolutely needs the highly visible Bruce Wayne cover story, since the roster of people in Gotham who could feasibly be Batman is probably single-digits. But if the point of the film is sort of a Begins-type story then it would make

For this movie, he is right. He’s at a point in his life where billionaire playboy makes no sense.

The little peak around the corner like “did they buy it?” Hathway does after ending her damsel in distress charade is just perfection.

Farewell Dowd. You and basically everyone working at this site were so much better than J/O Media deserved.

Dowd, I’m glad the last movie you reviewed for this site was a halfway decent one. I’ll miss your good work around here.

Counter argument , TDK was the worst thing to happen to comics movies ever .It basically promoted the idea that the only ‘good’ comics movies were the super grimdark ,brooding, ‘I’m super super serious you guys*” miseryfests, that appeal to 14 year old boys who think that being moody makes them deep and neckbeards.

That’s a bad joke. It sounds like its always expiring, right?
