Has there ever been a fuller First Lady than Laura Bush? She is like if beige became sentient.

While this isn’t for me, the less-snarky aspect is that it is encouraging community in a society that is ever-more less-communal. As a young adult after college I moved to the other side of the country, lived alone, and had no community. This is one positive side of housing like this.

I am unreasonably sad about Drew’s separation. I have such a soft spot for her and want to her to find forever happiness.

When I was pregnant the best advice I got was from my boss at the time, a kind of blunt dude, who said “Just don’t file any divorce papers until after the kid turns 2.” I was like uh, what? And he clarified that it’s just such an adjustment, like a cute little bomb goes off in your life, that it can take a year or two

I saw her talk at her (and my) alma mater Architectural Association in London. She was tough and powerful with a wry sense of humour. It was difficult to not sit up and listen to her, barbs and all. She was a woman and an Arab and did not conform to any of the stereotypes that abound in the discipline of

Is it weird that I know this dress is not from the prom but from another formal where Dylan and Brenda have sex in a hotel room upstairs from the dance?

I think it’s pretty important to strike the right balance when talking to these kids about this (or if other parents want to preemptively talk to their kids).

Pssssh. Homemade and standing in front of my 1984 montecarlo bitches.

My mom and I made my dress together (and when I say we made it “together” I mean I quickly got bored and she made it). It was a satin number with a corset top and big full skirt.

This made me a little teary-eyed. I went to my first prom in 1994 after pouring over every issue of Seventeen magazine since 6th grade when my mom bought my first issue after I got my first period. I would read YM and Sassy at my friend’s houses, but I always stayed loyal to Seventeen. My first issues had Nikki Taylor

Dude, that Joey Lawrence cover is like Proust’s fucking madeline. I kept that one foreeeeeever.

Architecture has been male-dominated since Imhotep. Regardless of whether her designs appealed to you, Hadid made a huge contribution to the field, and was truly impressive in her ability to succeed with the odds so incredibly stacked against her. I can’t wait to see what all the women she inspired in the field have

OMG I remember this issue! I must have read it dozens of times because I recognized it IMMEDIATELY. I was indeed 17 this year, and my prom dress was red with a side slit and a giant sparkly brooch-type-thing in the middle of the sweetheart neckline halter. I learned how to do a french twist (with fancy combs) for that

I’m pretty sure I remember this issue. I was a high school sophomore at the time and still thought there was a chance someone might eventually ask me to prom.

I am so saddened by this. This woman was a light to the world. For those interested in her life and work, please watch Alan Yentob’s Imagine: Zaha Hadid. My favourite work by her is in the museum she designed in Baku.

I’m sure someone has pointed this out already but Alaska has a decent percentage of people of Asian decent and also a fairly large percentage of Native Alaskans. Native kids, even in the urban areas still eat lots of fish related foods. Interestingly, a big issue of contention now is that Native Elders want to be able

When I was in kindergarten, I bit another girl’s thumb. I wasn’t mad at her or anything, I was just really curious about what would happen if I bit someone. Another time, I was playing with a girl (this was elementary school still—I was maybe eight-ish?), and we made up a code language, and were writing notes back and

I was involved in some serious drama in the second grade involving girls sending death threats. Never underestimate what might go through young children’s heads; also, from first glance I don’t think they truly understood what they were “plotting” and it was a “I HATE HER” situation gone sideways.

I suspect (just based on anecdotal evidence) that one/some of the kids had parents who watched those “Investigation Discovery” murder-marriage shows or a Grandparent/Caregiver who watches a bunch of Lifetime. I have yet to see an age appropriate cartoon or book that has a poisoning/murder plotline.

Here’s the plot twist, though. The kid they were trying to poison is actually the evil one. They were just doing their part to keep everyone else safe.
