“or is it basically just a fact that women in the service industry experience more creepy abusive behaviour from gross bosses?”

In Australia, we’re rightly famous for our terrifying PSAs. The workplace safety ad that creeps me out every time is the one of the girl in the bakery who’s distracted & sticks her hand in the bread slicer:

“Kevin decided to help her out by convincing her to call the police and say she had been raped.”

IMO, the problem is that a lot of the time, neither the parents or the schools teach the kids any life skills, or worse - as I often suspect when reading BCO - they teach them how to be bigger assholes than kids raised by wolves might be.

As the guy says, the key word there is “automatically”. My understanding is that contesting your ticket just gives you a reasonable chance of taking a walk, not a slam dunk.

I don’t know if you’ve ever needed to appear in court, but any place in the world that I know of, you need to set aside your entire day for it. So cops are just too busy to show up for anything minor, & of course that’s also true of most people who’ve gotten driving infractions. Whether showing up sans cop is enough

“Here I’ve been reminded time again that I’m the minority in this community.”

“So it can’t be logically argued that it goes all the way to the top. US/Australia/whatever nationally, maybe, but not globally.”

You think you’re entitled to hit on women you work with, asshole. Case closed.

Much better!

Yeah, someone’s suggested that they might be Guitar Hero ‘guitars’, & I think they’re right.

“You think maybe parents could fill that role?”

Okay, I’m saving that image to mess with some people. ;)

This particular photo is Internet-infamous for a reason. Be glad I didn’t use the high resolution verson. ;)

Like I said to someone else, this was about 25 years ago; digital cameras weren’t a thing yet, & digital colour printing was many years away from being cheap & in common use.

“It’s like $20/hr. or $100/day to just rent one at Home Depot.”

Heh. I guess all paybacks in this weeks BCO have me in a kinder mood than usual. ;)

Franchisers make sure they have plausible deniability, but they create the policies that pressure franchisees into doing this kind of shit. Go Google what’s happening to 7/11 in Australia right now over how their franchisees threat their staff.

“But why would you “crack down” on someone complimenting your shirt or making a positive comment about your attractiveness? How are men who are attracted to you supposed to communicate that to you?”

Pretty good, but a little light on condescension / obliviousness.
