The problem is, if you can accept the relatively poor fuel economy and the large vehicle size, the F150 is probably the best “do it all” vehicle.

Already available and have been for years.
This.
car = I can get in and go wherever I want, whenever I want. I’m in control. I can talk to myself in peace, practicing arguments that I may have one day, or replaying things that I should have said. I can listen to whatever music I want to, or talk on my (hands free) phone without worry.
That would be pretty much every single weekend. Not practical.
“Oh, and pickup trucks should only seat three people.”
Hello! Dumbass here. I just drove through that fog and rain for about 4hrs. That video makes it seem less dense than it was and it seriously lasted about 4 solid hours of my 4.5 hour drive. My nightmare drive come true.
We’re going to ask ourselves why people bought vehicles with perfect step in height, actual utility with the increased trunk space, better forward visibility, higher resale value, and the same fuel econ as a midsize sedan? No, we won’t. This didn’t happen overnight, its been 20 years of suv/cuv sales increasing year…
Let me think for a moment.
Real world seems to be about 1/3rd the distance for the x. I don’t buy that there will be some voodoo magic that changes this on the cybertruck. It’s heavier and less aerodynamic.
And electric trucks are really going to suck if you want to tow anything anywhere. Sure the paper numbers look good until you realize your range is now about a 1/3 of what it was (based on real world model x numbers) and that’s probably the best case scenario. Ad in the hour long charging times and electric won’t be…
Please let me know what car gets that mileage while having a 1,700lb payload, tow rating of 9,000 pounds, and have supplies dropped in it from a bobcat
Maybe, but do you really want to want to fill the back with fire ant infested plant debris, moldy drywall, or hundreds of dead fish or would you rather have all that In a separate area?
It’s strange but seldom discussed exactly what pickups have evolved into. They are essentially luxury vehicles especially when mid to top tier spec-ed. They are priced like it and they feel like it even if it’s not premium manufacture.
Remember...if it’s not brown, a wagon, tiny, weird or with a manual transmission then any member of the Jalopnik staff has to default hate it.
Trucks are easily the best single vehicle purchase if you needed to buy one vehicle for the rest of your life. They can do everything a car can do (legally) as well as haul anything you want (that is of reasonable weight).
I have to say, it is finally nice to see a full-sized truck used for something other than dragging one person around to get groceries or whatever.
In the US, the train system, with the exception of the Northeast Corridor and a few short stretches and commuter rail elsewhere, is owned by, and run by, the freight rail companies. It is designed and operated for heavy freight hauling at relatively slow speeds. Mixing fast passenger trains into that doesn’t work very…
I’ve spent time in Europe as well and people forgot how much smaller and denser Europe is. Germany is 1/2 the size of Texas with 3x the population, that makes rail way more doable.
I always wear my seatbelt, and insist that everyone in my vehicles always wear their seatbelts. I’m just pointing out the frivolity of implementing a lockout for something so easily defeated.
