The country has always been this way. Its only just now getting brought up every day in the news because it gets clicks. They come in all shapes and sizes despite what some would lead you to believe. 

My dad keeps saying “you’re blowing this out of proportion” or “the media doesn’t cover the successes” because he can’t just bring himself to say “I just want my tax cut and fuck off to everyone else.” Which is a shitty thing to say but I’d be glad he’s being honest at least.

At bottom, it lacks absolutely any moral or ideological underpinning beyond the reactionary protection of moneyed white men—of their station, their wealth and power, and their egos.

I teach high school. A few years ago there was one boy who kept poking girls. They asked him to stop. I wrote him up. It was dismissed as not a big deal.

To add, it’s sort of the point of the whole “me too” movement - to identify that harassment and assault occur on the same spectrum of behavior. Assault happens because harassment is tolerated.
