“Of course, we were told to linger as long as we wanted over coffee,”
“Of course, we were told to linger as long as we wanted over coffee,”
I would have no problem saying something to the server in that situation. Servers at those kind of restaurants make a lot of money, and a big reason for that is that they are supposed to make the dining experience pleasant. If you tell them that you want to have the pace of the meal slowed, it is their job to convey…
Wil Wheaton, although not single, has been doing that for years.
What? I would have sworn he was at least 50.
I don’t even think I could be friends with a republican at this point.
It sounds like it is time to make yet another donation to NARAL.
No. What I am saying is that parents need to read older books with their kids and discuss the matters of racism and sexism. With the exception of Moby Dick, I cannot think of a single book that is more than 100 years old that wasn’t racist. Some like Wuthering Heights were subtle, and others like Heart of Darkness were…
I missed that tweet yesterday, but I follow Perlman on Twitter. He HATES Trump and devotes his Twitter feed to putting Republicans on blast, with the occasional jab at misogynists. It is rather entertaining.
They are hard to find, but a good farmhouse cider is the perfect summer drink. They are much more complex and deeply flavored than boring old Angry Orchard but are still light and fresh enough to taste good on a hot day.
Ma was repeating a common refrain of the era, which I believe is originally attributed to the genocidal General Sheridan. That doesn’t mean that Ma wasn’t a bigot, but kids today should have exposure to what this country was really built on so they can understand why it is deeply flawed.
I think it is important to read and discuss the books with kids. We shouldn’t sanitize history and pretend that everyone in America’s history was flawless and noble. Kids should understand that people are complicated. They should also understand that society can change and progress can be made. You don’t have to…
It sounds like they need to make sure the server understands they mean truly well done so that can get conveyed to the chef. Servers have to deal with a lot of people who don’t use the right terms, but if you tell them you don’t want any hint of pink, they will make sure the chef knows.
I need to save that picture of Jessica Chastain. That is how I want to get my hair cut.
I read those books about bold, sassy men in school. I remember having to pick our favorite biography out of a bunch of male explorers and write a report about it. There were quite a few women explorers, as I found out later, but I never would have learned that in school.
Also, his feminism doesn’t seem performative like that guy from Orange is the New Black or a few other men. He is very active about speaking to groups of men about the importance of feminism.
I have noticed that most feminist websites need to employ at least one writer over 30 because the sites have no clue what life is like outside of academia or their echo chambers. This reminds me of them complaining that Dietland was sooo 2008 and that no one cared if women were fat anymore.
I do adore Crews. He is one of the few actors who I would like to see run for office.
I really do not understand what the problem Jez and Slate is trying to stir up about these books is. Boys have always had role models and icons who they were told made history. It is about time that girls get to understand that they can make history, too, and that they have always made history but it was hidden.
I love the third rack, but the best thing about Bosch is how quiet it is. We have an open floor plan, and it doesn’t disrupt anything. The only problem is that it can be too quiet to hear, and my colorblind dad can’t see the light that shines on the floor when it is running so he has been known to open it.
Also, do not put your nice KitchenAid stand mixer attachments in the dishwasher because they will oxidize. A lesson my husband learned the hard way.
