I still say the established automakers should try going private the way Dell did. They very clearly are never going to make shareholders happy with good long term decisions.

Don’t worry, that’s coming next. I’m going to be working this beat (lol) further and deeper.

That is a rabbit hole I’m still following down for a future update. Thus far the finances don’t show anything too surprising aside from a million dollars to Microsoft for cloud services, and the fact that the CEO of AAMVA has a cushy $400k/yr job. Donors appear to be anonymous, for now.

I can’t comment on the situation at large, other than it sucks. But wanted to say, that’s some great investigative journalism. 👍

People always scoff at me suggesting that bans on selling gas powered new cars will be followed in short order by bans on registering existing gas powered cars but here is your roadmap.

It almost has to be car dealers.  They see everything as a threat to their monopoly.  One of them probably has a neighbor with a tiny truck and they now assume every house in the state has one.

Who is behind this? Its not like this is eating into new car sales or anything. As far as safety is concerned, there are bigger fish to fry than a niche community. As a Delica owner in PA, this is infuriating. I’ve had my van for 3 years now, never had any hassle or anything. Clean title, registration, all that.

If you need to be an experienced operator to use FSD, how FSD can it be?

I like the preview picture of the video.  Everything you need to know about how close we are to full AV5 capability in a single face.

For context: a cross-country economy-class ticket before deregulation cost $1,600

I find it funny, because Ford is probably going to be next to market with an EV truck, and quite soon.  And yet Ford has a market cap that is just over half of Rivians.  Like, a company is about to release a competitor to the only product that Rivian makes, in addition to offering a shit ton of other stuff, and they

There is a massive cultural pressure with South Koreans to NOT bring shame upon their company and friends. It’s hard enough in American culture, but nearly impossible in Kim Gwang-ho’s.

Recent Bolt and Bolt EUVs are not under any recall, my fact-challenged friend. They have not built many of the fixed version, but the road is clear for them going forward.

In the 1980's plenty of university grads could actually afford a 3-series, or at least after a few years in their first job. The 3-series was the right size for people in that stage of their life was fun and yes did have the yuppie snob appeal.

Probably because it’s in the same size class as the Aviator and XT6.

“It’s really too bad that Toyota is now experiencing the consequences of its own actions.”

They’re not in Michigan because Michigan is RTW, Michigan is RTW because the Big 3 are there.

5th gear: Toyota was one of (if not the) first Japanese automakers to set up shop in the US using union labor, and they suffered the consequences after the NUMMI fiasco and witnessing the inability of other union plants to pick up on the improvements they made to their own. It took years (and many rounds of employees

“It’s really too bad that Toyota is experiencing the consequences of its own actions.”
That isn’t how consequences work. This law is what is known as an “externality” or “unknown” in economic models.
The other way to headline this would be “One of the world’s largest automakers, who brought good-paying jobs to rural
