The only thing worth defending here is the... actress saying she isn't right and the director thinking otherwise.

If one wants to be truly pedantic, then one must say, "There remains no solid evidence for UFOs/ESP, and what evidence we do have makes it seem incredibly unlikely," but that's not pithy and is likely to confuse people. If there's no evidence a thing exists, then for all intents and purposes, it may as well not exist.
