I think you are missing an important point. We don’t make those characters suffer because they are queer. We make them suffer because they are protagonists and/or important characters.

Here’s the thing, though. It’s okay to be a man or a woman or neither. It’s okay to be black, white, Asian, other or mixed. It’s okay to be gay, straight or bi. It’s okay to be trans or cis.
