You’re correct — it was pushed by the Republicans and Clinton worked lock=step with them, infuriating a lot of us. It was the beginning of the ‘compromise=capitulation’ strategy that progressives are still using.

I’m as blue as they get but deregulating telecoms happened under Clinton in ‘96.
There’s always that one storyline to a relatively enjoyable show that annoys. Tyga is that annoying and useless filler storyline.
Point One: We need to pay GOOD teachers better.
Good. Time we pay teachers enough so we don’t get this trash.
Ah. I see.
When he moves out of the White House you guys would be wise to search every truck and person helping him go or I guarantee you’ll discover many priceless and historically significant objects have disappeared.
He had both houses for the first two years. He also refused to reach across the aisle as well.
No they don’t. FDR holds the record for obvious reasons. The idea that Obama issued more executive orders than anybody else is totally false.
No. Blame him for executive overreach. He could have tried to work with Congress, but instead tried to bully it and end run around it through quasi-legal means and a few illegal means (recess appointments when Congress was not in recess, etc).
In other words the warning many have been uttering for many years is coming true, “Be careful what you wish for.”
>>>As I mentioned elsewhere, I really hope the history books also note that Obama was faced with a possibly historic level of obstructionism from Congress. So he was forced to get creative with executive power in order to govern.<<<
Exactly so except let’s name the issue more directly: he pretty much crapped all over the separation or powers as established by the Constitution. His pen and phone set precedents that most sane Americans (as opposed to Democrats and Republicans) had real fears for. Once that poop is out of the horse, it can’t be put…
Would that include the first 2 years where his party controlled both houses of Congress? Because, you know, their immobility during those first 2 years was what voters were pissed about when the 2010 elections came around and the other party took lots of seats.
Just sayin’...
Since FDR though, *every* President has increasingly used more executive power. It’s only been increasing with each subsequent president
That obstructionist congress didn’t fucking force him to bail out the banks. I mean, forget jail time, not one of those assholes even had to resign.
Yeah it definitely IS part of Obama’s legacy (along with plenty of more admirable stuff as well). He deserves to be held accountable on this count, it’s not like he didn’t know he was eventually going to be passing this power along to someone else.
The only relatively recent example I can think of is Rebel Wilson in Bachelorette where she’s getting married to a conventionally handsome guy and Kirsten Dunst squees at the news to her face then later throws a tantrum because how dare Rebel Wilson be loved by a hot guy when she’s fat while Kirsten is thin and hot…
That was the original story of Shrek although they changed it for the movie so that Fiona is introduced as beautiful and only appears as an ogre later.
I’d live to be a fly on the wall in meetings between Chuck Schumer and the other Democrats.
