There’s always filler but you lose some fun casual bits. For years I generally only watched the “good” episodes of TOS, the ones that worked best as “real” science fiction or added to the worldbuilding or whatever, and tended to avoid the heavy-handed allegorical shows because they weren’t Star Trek at its best.
