Not a lawyer. I think the term is “gross negligence”. The contract doesn’t protect the shop because their action of the employee (illegal u-turn) is clearly “grossly negligent”.

You are coming from “what’s best for human”. Manufactures are thinking “what’s best for profit”. Relatively speaking, EV is low tech; the profit margin will evaporate quickly as competitors catches up to Tesla. Autonomous vehicles, on the other hand, are extremely difficult, and thus, potentially VERY profitable.
