Maybe the joke’s on me, but the Mustang branding, styling and performance makes me want this car more than if it was just a Ford branded SUV with an electric powertrain.

Maybe you should take your own advice?
This x 1000!!
I get what you’re saying but I think if you name it Fusion Energi X or whatever, everyone would have yawned and moved on 8 hours after the reveal. Nobody is putting down $500 to reserve a $50k Fusion branded car almost a year before deliveries start. Like it or not, but the Mustang name, branding, styling and…
I would put money on it being the other way around. It’s a near certainty that the # of people who will buy it *because* it’s a Mustang > # of people who will NOT by it just because it’s called a Mustang.
Love this kind of in-depth design analysis. One thing I find interesting is how deceptively small/short it is, considering the fact that it’s being called an “SUV”. It’s 63 inches tall, meaning it’s at least a couple inches shorter than the next shortest SUV in Ford’s lineup - the Ecosport. It’s only about 2 inches…
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Ford has over 3,000 dealers in the united states and ~2,100 (give or take a dozen or so since new dealers get added and other go out of business) will be able to sell and service the Mach-E. I promise you I’m right about this. If you don’t believe me, go on Ford.com and count how many dealers you can choose to reserve…

Controversial press is good press because it means organic publicity. People who have never even considered buying a Ford will now take a second look because they have heard about it. If it was another inoffensive Chevy Bolt compliance car, or even something mildly attractive but not controversial like a Tesla, then…
There are 17 orderable configurations before color options. That’s an EXTREMELY low number compared to most vehicles. Especially considering that this one model is going to compete for Model 3, Model X and even some Model S customers. Plus the first edition is limited availability, so they will probably sell out via…
Ford has been offering electrified versions of their normal body style cars (Focus EV, Fusion Energi, CMax Energi) for years and sales have been extremely low. Making EVs have their own unique looks seems to be an essential move in order to sell.
I mean, unless you think Ford, an extremely conservative company with many lawyers, is just lying, I’m not sure how this can be interpreted any way other than Ford’s network is larger than Tesla’s: https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2019/10/17/ford-introduces-north-americas-largest-electric-vehicle…
The FordPass Charging network will have more DC fast chargers, which is the same thing as the Tesla branded superchargers.
It’s only a few centimeters taller than the outgoing Taurus, which is about as short as you can go and still kind of get away with calling it an SUV. If they called it a Sport Wagon, which they could have, it would probably cut their sales numbers in half lol.
It tests better in the market. People see the hovering ipad look as more modern/premium and will spend more money for it than an integrated screen.
1. Ford gets the full tax credit plus whatever state credits.
Whoever took those pictures/video screenshots needs to learn how to do white balancing. That’s clearly supposed to be a red car on white background but it’s more orange on yellow background with the current white balance.
