It’s his world/creation, and that means he benefits. Yes. I’m fine with that. The QUALITY of that work, is not on him.

It’s at this point that I remind people that the Thrawn trilogy (while having Thrawn, who is pretty cool overall) also had the convoluted aspects of force-defeating worms, death star superweapons, a Crazy Obi-Wan allegory (Jorus), and a cloned Luke named Luuke.
It’s like I’m supposed to feel bad for liking the prequels (there are parts I dislike, but overall I enjoyed)...because I grew up with the OT, I’m supposed to have a hate on for the prequels...but I don’t.
I think the Luke, Leia, Han thing will go away after TFA drops. They are just keeping stuff with them under wraps for now. You also have to rememebr that the lions share of their story will be in the main movies now. The books can’t contradict that. Which is why Aftermath was nice, it gives us a new cast of characters…
Indeed! Well sourced. You’d be surprised at just how many people TOTALLY believe that the old EU was considered canon. I don’t know where they got their wires crossed, but it simply never was canon.
This is so untrue I can’t even begin to answer it. The facts stare your answer in the face as wrong.
A LOT of epople have come out and said “old canon”....meanwhile it never EVER was. GL was specific in that he rarely paid it any mind and it was never officially canon in any way.
Not defending George Lucas, but the Old EU was a MESS of continuity errors and crossed wires. Those writing it didn’t really care, ACROSS the board. Hell, even in one of the 9-book maxi-series (Legacy of the Jedi), of the three authors handling it two were on board with how they wanted to tell the story (Denning, and…
JJ is a well known life-long Star Wars fan. It was how he and Lindelof bonded when they met prior to making Lost.
I’ll probably catch heat for this, but Aftermath is better because it’s not about the Big Three. It’s a story that blazes a new path and doens’t feel the need to hold on to the characters WE know to explaoire the world in which they live.
Those rumours are stupid. A Skywalker kid does not mean it’s Luke’s kid. It can mean Leia too.
No, Bane will be tied in as he already has (TCW: S6). Revan won’t show up, as he’s too convoluted and was a Bane knockoff.
I thik you have a VERY narrow view of what the old EU was. Very little of it was actually worthwhile and blazing a decent trail. All those authors usually used the big three and the OT as their touchstones in those books. Only rare instances (example: Legacy comics) was there anything worthwhile being done.
...his/her point was that such is an OPINION...and that if those movies are THAT bad, then people shouldn’t STILL be bitching about them all these years later. I hated the Transformers movies....but still love Transformers as a fandom. As a TF fan I don’t need to rail again and again about those movies (which I did…
Exactly. I can’t fathom those people singing the praises of the old EU like it was some untouchable bastion of perfection. It was, BOTTOM LINE, 10% worthwhile, and 90% pretty standrard dreck piggybacking on the aspects of known SW universe: Need a smuggler? Call Lando or Han. Need a Jedi? Call Luke and maybe his…
This should have more stars. I LOLed.
Agreed. Millenials are an entitled, selfie-taking curse upon society.
