Incredible animation. As much as anime might have changed, whenever I have to explain why I still prefer it to western cartoons any day, I can point to shows like this one.

It is. Hence, like I said, the banding and dithering you see in the unfiltered images, which appear in full on a modern flatscreen with the “1:1 look” the guy was talking about, and which are (mostly) hidden by a CRT.

The 2005 King Kong film is a remake. The re-mastered Wizard of Oz bluray is not a remake.

I don’t think you understand. The “1:1 look” of the game was never meant to be seen. The CRT helped to reduce pixelization, and most importantly color banding and dithering brought on by the limited 256 color palette of the backgrounds.

It’s good looking, though honestly there’s something about the original that just seems nicer still. It’s probably just the lighting.
