“However history shows that Lee freed his slaves voluntarily, because he wasn’t as asshole.”
Ummm, Robert E. Lee fought a war to ensure that states could continue to exercise their rights to keep slaves. Also, the south started the war. There is nothing redeeming about Lee. Not one goddamn thing.
Nope. That’s not correct and really doesn’t show the character of them.
“Most Americans” did not own slaves. According to the 1860 census, only 8% of families owned slaves. http://www.civil-war.net/pages/1860_census.html

You will learn real quick just what kind of history some people in this country have been taught.
I used to have a friend from south of Atlanta who was major confederate history buff, complete with battlefield artifacts and assorted other crap.
I think you mean, “Robert E. Lee only freed his slaves because the will he inherited them through stipulated it five years after his father in law’s death and even then it took a court order to make him release all of them Highway”. Historically accurate and shows the true character of the old traitor.
Bull. This has been debunked several times.

It’s why I Had to move to Denver.
If you watch the “Civil War” documentary, his standing as a great general is kind of a two-edged sword. He fought battles and lost enormous amounts of casualties.
The people of Atlanta are still really sensitive about Sherman jokes... I know this because I make them constantly.
The William Tecumseh Sherman “Don’t Make Me Come Down There Again” Memorial Highway.
If you ever wanna have a real good (read: terrible) time, pick a Conservative-leaning Facebook page discussing all this and remind them that Robert E. Lee was a slaveowner and a traitor. You will learn real quick just what kind of history some people in this country have been taught. The way some people tell it, Lee…
How about “Ulysses S. Grant Kicked Robert E Lee’s Ass Highway”
