Episodic shows only really make sense if you’re dealing with a standard network model — 22-26 episodes per season, aired weekly over a period of 6-9 months. Serialized shows are designed to cut down on the fat, so there’s no real need for bottle episodes unless the showrunners want to do them.

Considering the producers include a number of Trek vets, I think they at least have some idea what they’re doing.
