If they'd done it this season, then that might have been a factor; but to do it in season 3, they'll have to make her a much more active character than a mere love interest. This is a women's show, they can't play her just as an object of desire.

You are not. Plus, the one time he told her something she didn't want to hear, she broke a beer bottle with her bare hands and screamed at him in public.
You do not need to persuade me about getting on the Winn/Lena train.
I'm still not on board with Lyra, and I'm *exactly* the kind of person she was designed to appeal to.
If you're decrying a fictional female character beating a fictional male character in a fight on a TV show named after the fictional female character as "anti-male prejudice", never mind sexism, then I really don't know what to say to you, other than maybe you should think about why it's so important to you that the…
Sexism = Prejudice + *systemic power*
KARA: "He's just so smart, you know? Smart people are SO hot"
Adopted, but secretly Lionel's daughter from his mistress (proved by DNA).
Agreed. It's basically public record that I'm not a James fan, but Guardian or no Guardian, the writers should be able to find some inherent conflict/contrast between him and other characters (and if they can't, then send him away. No-one's fave should die on Supergirl.)
I was surprised by how little agency Mon-El had this episode.
Winn. Lena. Safety goggles.
I am so here for Winn and Cat that I'm annoyed they didn't make it more of a thing back in season one.
I'm not trying to say James is not a good person. He's JIMMY OLSEN, of course he's a good person. No-one wrote any of those things above believing that James was bad.
The second one.
James is a symptom of Berlantiverse Love Interest Syndrome: a LI is written for the protagonist, someone whom they cannot have. This character will have no discernible flaws. This is what happened with Laurel Lance, it happened with Iris West, it happened with James.
Same will go with Winn..if they ever will start to develop him to be the next Toyman..
Jeremy Jordan is giving one of the best performances of Jimmy Olsen we're ever likely to see in live action… with the minor quibble that he's playing Winslow Schott.
So, the moral of this week's episode is that James is a guy to can help by giving information and support, and that there's no shame in that?
This is my point: yes, Kara's been keeping the Supergirl secret from Lena because Lena *is* a security risk, and that's largely because she's a Luthor; however, the basis of their friendship is Kara repeatedly telling Lena that she trusts her, completely, and that her being a Luthor is irrelevant.
I know people are part of different friendship circles, but in real life, you don't need to intentionally introduce different conflicts to generate 22 episodes of story every year.
