So, I’m going to throw out a long-winded post and this is coming from someone who used to commute by bike, motorcycle, car, exotic, and now a 1500 pickup truck. I also live in one of the most dangerous places in the US for cyclists: Tampa Bay, FL.

Are people really spending $1000 on name-brand tires?

They are still better for the environment compared to current fossil fueled cars. However, you are right that they are still very expensive for most people, and that has to change. A lot of countries subsidize them while at the same time tax heavy fossil fueled cars more. This is good policy in my book.

If it were just cost (or just one of the several other significant issues hampering adoption) it would be a lot easier to overcome.

This guy’s whole “I would LOVE an EV but think about the environment/poor countries/indigenous people/price” argument is like a fossil-fuel company’s textbook “green initiatives” strategy that’s really all about why we shouldn’t be using alternative power sources. “We’re developing solar and wind farms, they’re only

The study isn’t about energy transfer and how a heavier vehicle does more damage than a lighter vehicle. And the mass of a car versus a bike or pedestrian makes that pretty much a moot point anyway.

Daily Reminder that BEVs are not green and rushing consumers to the market is going to be more disasterous for the environment as large mining companies dig up 3rd world countries, poison their water supply, and displace natives.

With climate change and rising sea levels, the last thing Florida needs to worry about is a water shortage.  (But, yes, FRESH water shortage will be a real thing)

Now playing

In regards to 2-stroke vs. 4-stroke for Honda motorcycle racing, I’m also fascinated by development of the 270° Crank on motorcycles. The uneven firing is a compromise between traction recovery and crank balance.

I’m probably going to be flying at some point this summer, but it’s really the first time I’ve stepped on a plane in years. My 5 year old hasn’t even been on a plane in her life. I’m not saying I’ve ever had a shockingly bad experience flying, but for the BS I have to put up with on a good/average day, plus the

Looks like I’m installing a PA system on my cars.

and they definitely shouldn’t be able to play siren sounds.

This seems like a good place to restate my belief that it should be illegal for radio stations to play the sound of a car horn. They do so fairly often it turns out, and almost every time, it causes me a moment of panic as I look around to see if I’m about to be hit.

I’m no fan of T or Elon. But I am genuinely curious. Do people hate Elon more or care more about transitioning reliance to sustainable energy?

Wait. What? We’re talking about a company ( Pepsico) that had a revenue of 86.4 Billion dollars last year and I- the taxpayer- paid for a fleet of trucks for them? That does not make sense.

Great. Now let’s talk about how Pepsi, Coke and their parent companies are stealing water rights from Indigenous people in developing nations. Why let people have free water when you can sell them sugary, caffeinated water.

I’m fairly certain the second one would sell very well as a Cadillac.

I was very close to buying one with the price cuts. But fuck Elon Musk. I’m not giving that clown a penny, and don’t want a car so closely associated with him.

it’s Literally Lipstick on a Pig. There is no way that’s not intentional. BMW is mocking their customers unreal!
