like even at a normal closed gas station the pumps are almost always still working even if the canopy lights might be off.

Yup, I’m over a year in ownership still very satisfied and 32-35mpg isn’t unattainable, I’m averaging 28-29 daily.
Seriously? Gonna come back with DISNEY WORLD as your example? A place that it is not meant to function like any normal city? That is built for completely different purposes than actual cities? Whose “transit” is solely meant to keep you in areas controlled by Disney where they get a cut of whatever you spend while…
There has been cost shifting over the years from luxury amenities toward safety features and fuel efficiency. While much of that may be from government mandates (particularly for lower-priced models), more and more people also have increasing preferences for those trade-offs.
It is a demonstrated fact, that people choosing to buy EVs do NOT believe that they are a poor value. Otherwise, they would not have made the purchase. You are stating a personal preference.
So, you spent more money for your hybrid than you did for a Bolt EV? You also get less performance, a much, much more complex drivetrain, likely a worse warranty (EVs have 8yr/100k mile warranties on batteries/drivetrain), and for what? You can buy a Bolt EV for LESS THAN $20k.
In a way, yes they want prices to rise, but there are 2 problems:
The MSRP for the EX was around $31,500 but the dealership had a second “adjustment” sticker bumping it up to $37k.
I started looking into these today until I saw the really poor child seat scores from Cars dot com. Apparently a rear facing infant seat will not give a 5'6 front passenger any room. That’s a deal breaker for me. It’s really hard to find a car that isn’t an SUV and can fit rear facing child seats :(
It’s not that they’re shitty values (as long as they don’t have dealer markup) EVs just front-load costs. Just accounting for fuel (so ignoring ICE engine maintenance) the cost per mile to operate Niro hybrid is 80% more than Niro Electric.
2 stories that will never leave my mind:
Fuel economy is a big one. I’ve been blabbing on and on since the Great Recession, that people will gravitate towards the largest vehicle they can afford and drive. The only real pitfalls of a large vehicle is cost, fuel economy, and parking it. Back in the day, when gas prices shot up, you could pick up a truck or…
employees are forced to overwork to make up for staffing deficiencies in the name of profits. It’s a philosophy that we’ve seen time and time again that disregards the health and safety of railroad employees and the general public.
I don’t doubt there’s some truth in this article, but fuel prices have been rising due to China and OPEC trying to squeeze out more profits through scarcity. Texas is making up the slack and just broke a few production records.
I made the same decision recently, partly for reasons of value and partly for reasons of practicality. Like you, I test drove a handful of EV models—but I was looking at used cars. Ultimately, I went with a used Niro hybrid (not plug-in). Why? Because the used EVs were still really expensive compared to other cars.…
Counterpoint: We just bought a Bolt EV. In my view, that thing provides a phenomenal bang for the buck. $29,900 less the $7,500 IRA tax incentive plus $2500 from the state (as a point of sale rebate) gets it to $19,900 before taxes and fees.
also public charging stations are scalping ev owners. it costs more to charge an EV at a public charger like electrify america than it does to fill up my prius with gas. Also my house does not have a garage so i would have to dig a trench and install a charger by my driveway and that would costs thousands and…
Man, you’re on a mission to sell the Niro to Jalop, aren’t ya?
I can’t seem to find the fully gasoline one, anymore, although I definitely saw it when I was shopping a few weeks ago. In any case, it looks like it’s now 3 flavors with the Hybrid starting off the lineup:
Sure, I agree. Toyota says they can achieve 900mi with solid-state batteries in the near future. It will eventually happen, but that day is not today and is the reason so many EVs are now rotting on dealership lots and articles like this are blaming it on everything they possibly can:
“EVs are too small for American…
