The particular case I'm thinking of is where the parents gave their kids mac & cheese as opposed to vegetables. Like, "mommy and daddy are gonna eat this, you eat your mac & cheese". I was kind of shocked.

Butter is fine, so long as it's actually butter not margarine.

Same here. My problem was that a lot of those vegetables were high in carbs (potatoes) and my mom, like most Americans, relied on the typical American diet to feed me. I learned much later in life that a high carb diet and myself don't mix..
