Learning the structure is (fairly) easy. Developing style within that structure remains the more elusive skill, for sure. The difficulty lies in the fact that developing style often depends upon the writer knowing the rules well enough to know when/how to bend or break them for rhetorical effect without sacrificing…

Reminds me of a research paper with thesis statements.  Once I learned the structure my papers became a breeze to write but I couldn't discover the knack to make them interesting.
