It’s crazy, isn’t it? I hated “The Man Show” and its consistent casual misogyny, but I’ll be goddamned if Kimmel hasn’t really won me over this year. He’s knocking it out of the park. I’m proud of him. And the Fred Rogers intro was inspired.

Kimmel started the show (before this monologue) with a clip of Mr. Rogers talking about being kind to others. The whole thing was well crafted and movingly delivered. He’s turning into a great voice of conscience.

Not a rape.

It doesn’t matter what his motivation was, it was an act of terror because he shot over 500 people and killed more than a tenth of those. There is no cause other than terror; he was prepared, these people were strangers to him and he did not see their faces.

Another big factor is that Congressional Republicans simply refuse to investigate any of it. If Clinton had won and one of her Cabinet secretaries had resigned due to using tax payer dollars you can bet your ass that Trey Gowdy and the rest of those fucking clowns would be having hearings on it until 2030.

You need to put him in perspective and to consider historical context. Like it or not, he did a lot of good for women; he certainly had a huge role in promoting women’s sexual agency and reproductive rights.

“The biggest difference however, is now there are “only” 3 possibly 4 tax brackets vs 7 of the current setup. This wasn’t meant to burn anyone. In fact it is meant to help simplify taxes allowing individuals to save money come tax time by being able to do their own taxes.”

Although I suspect his motives were not so altruistic but just to ensure that women he knocked up would be able to have their little problem “taken care of.”

Getting it “taken care of” was never a problem for rich people regardless of legality of abortion.

Very, very well said.

It’s a more complicated scenario than just “he was a creepy dude who basically objectified women” although he most certainly was. I wrote a pretty extensive paper on early Playboy and the rise of men’s magazines in college, and women did draw benefits from Hefner’s philosophy and the culture he tried to promote. He

easy to look at culture from here without realizing that Playboy busted open a tightly knit, sexually repressed society - or tried to.

But this is exactly how the cycle works, especially in the last few decades. Republicans take charge and blow everything to hell by slashing taxes, destroying social programs, and starting wars that pour profits into the top 1%. When everything goes to hell, Democrats are voted in and are faced with the impossible

I’m not going to lie if those were ever to be published I would read the shit out of those scrapbooks.

This is likely the best comment and summary of him I’ll read. Completely fair.

Of all the post about Hugh’s death, Jez’s was the one I wanted to see most as to see how he was remembered. He has a complex legacy: publisher of some of the best authors of the 20's century, great art, amazing photographers (Annie Leibovitz, Herb Ritts, Helmut Newton among others), insightful interviews, early

“Republicans: pushing Trickle-Down Economics for over thirty-five years despite over thirty-five years of evidence that it doesn’t work.”

“This is a revolutionary change, and the biggest winners will be middle class workers as jobs start pouring into our country, as companies start competing for American labor, and as wages continue to grow,” Donald Trump said about his tax plan, which he has certainly read and understands very well.

Trump increased the membership fee of Mar-a-Lago after winning the election.
