I hear the same argument about the NFL stadium in Las Vegas, that the stadium money is coming from out-of-towners via hotel/motel taxes, etc. It still amounts to egregious corporate welfare.

I know how TIFs work.

literally every serious academic look at this says that there is almost zero positive effect from this. Its a total joke and only a give-away to the already rich.

Its *not* about attendance. It’s about one of the wealthiest people in America taking money from the coffers of an American city that can least afford it so he can further line his pockets, risk-free.

Plus most the jobs created after the construction is done are merely part time and or seasonal.

Unscientific survey of one person (me):

Every study that has looked at the actual effects says that the effects aren’t that big, they only extend a couple blocks from the stadium, and merely shuttles money there from other parts of the city.

That’s because the producers get them all liberally doused in the green room prior to the show.

It’s because GTA4 got two good-to-excellent expansions (because they were meaty like the expansions of old, not the usual DLC fare) and 5 got monetised multiplayer instead.

No. But previous GTA games have all received robust single-player expansions and GTAV has only seen multiplayer additions. The game has a huge map that could really benefit from more single-player content.

“We could all get drug tests. Nobody smokes.”

The Amanda Knox case is suddenly making a lot more sense to me...

Eh, I’m not so mad about that personally since Hulu does have a wide variety of content. It’s the networks that keep trying to make their streaming services separate that rub me the wrong way; having Netflix for movies and older content with Hulu for television and newer content makes sense to me. It’s paying CBS All

I honestly see her either doing boring-but-well-paid lawyer stuff (contracts, wills, etc), or being a talking head on MSNBC or the like. I don’t think her reputation will ever recover enough to go back to the way it used to be for her.

“The story involved the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise visiting the home planet of the Titans of ancient myth, and then traveling back in time to teach prehistoric man the secret of fire”

Technically Americans - a new subjugated class of citizens we choose to care less about because most of them look different and speak a different language. See also: Brown People.

Look What You Made Me Do was pretty universally reviled, Ready For It came and went without making any impact whatsoever, and it’s still too early to tell with Gorgeous, but I’m betting it won’t leave a lasting impression either.

People keep saying that the singles aren’t the good songs and the rest of the album will be better. This is now three for three on bad songs released.

Lol what? This song fucking sucks.

I don’t know why for someone so image-conscious, Taylor Swift consistently chooses to release her worst material for album promo. 1989's pre-release cycle gave us Shake It Off, Out of the Woods and Welcome to New York, and all the while she was just sitting on Blank Space, Style and Wildest Dreams. Maybe she doesn’t
