It’s too bad really because they could have been a nice substitute for Golf owners who didn’t want to step up to the GTI that is being forced on the US market as the only Golf option going forward. I get that the GTI is the most popular Golf, but not everyone wanted to pay the extra money for a hatchback.

I wonder if it all kinda balances out though? I think older used cars in Europe tend to be a lot cheaper because the strict inspection requirements mean your used car is always a lot closer to being suddenly worthless than it would be in the US where you can basically drive any old crapcan on the road.

I have slowly come to the realization over the past few years that I love Beetles and will likely have to own one at some point. Whenever I’m out with my cameras and I see a Beetle I cannot help but stop and shoot it. They’re so easy to shoot! There’s not a bad angle on the damn things that doesn’t immediately spark…
