America continues to influence the world through soft power

“I’d rather someone burn the flag and wrap themselves in the Constitution than burn the Constitution and wrap themselves in the flag”

Obligatory...

I pretty much lost it when I got to the part where she was shouting about knowing people at Fox News, only for it to somehow get better as it was her mother trying to calm her down... At a music festival where she was riling up some teenagers.

Nope. No police state here!

your status as a commie bastard is totally independent of the fact that song is dog vomit.

Tiny, superconservative Texas towns also LOVE playing Martina McBride’s “Independence Day” for July 4, which is, uhhh. “Domestic violence escalating to murder/suicide” is not really imagery that I usually associate with “patriotic anthem,” but maybe it should be!

Call me a commie bastard, but I fucking hate that song.

Born in the USA has that catchy refrain that could leave someone thinking it’s all “Yay America” if they don’t pay attention to the rest of the song. Fortunate Son doesn’t even get to the refrain before making it very clear that the song is protesting American interventionism. I’ve never understood how right wing

It’s the political equivalent of playing “Every Breath You Take” at your wedding.

It’s because American Conservatism has been attracting the most manipulative cynics and the stupidest rubes since the 70s.

This will never get old to me. Oh jfc that made me laugh. Thank you.

He’s the one
Who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means
Knows not what it means
And I say he’s the one
Who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it means
Knows not what it means
And I say

Yeah I’m sorry, but that topped Springsteen for me. And no musician has ever issued an ass-whipping on a politician like Tom Morello did on Ryan.

OMG-my dad actually used the lyrics to “Fortunate Son” to teach me at a young age about inequality and white privilege. He was a Green Beret during the Vietnam War who never spoke of what he did there, and who did not want to fight a white man’s war.

Nothing in this very sad schadenfreude genre will ever, to me, be funnier than Paul Ryan’s favorite band being Rage Against the Machine.

But when it comes to campaign rally songs that don’t match the politics of those who wield it, nothing beats Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A”...

My tiny, superconservative Indiana town used to play “Born in the USA” every July 4, and it always made me giggle because obviously nobody ever actually listened to the lyrics.

I just don’t understand how anyone could think playing fortunate son would be a good idea at this schumcks’ rally.

As was the style at the time.
