A very real possibility is that the virus mutates into something that kills more slowly. The rule for successful viruses is not “don’t burn your bridges” i.e. kill the host, it’s “don’t burn your bridges before you’ve crossed them”.

The point that I and traffic engineers around the world are trying to make is that you are better off designing for the lowest common denominator. Maybe YOU will slow down when your visibility is lower, but most won’t, so we design for them.
