I think sketch comedy shows can get away with them because they can go more broad, and sacrifice character. There's no story. Actual sitcoms suffer from them because they actually do have stories, and have the time to do more subtle humor.

That kind of criticism makes it so the writers are unable to win. If they write a line that's close to early Creed, it comes off as an "imitation." If they do something different with Creed, they're "straying from his character."

I didn't see the new episode, but when she actually did work The Ava Show, she had to have been making enough money for it. That wasn't too unrealistic.

People idolize Tony Soprano and Walter White. As late as this season, it's not uncommon to still find people defending or making excuses for Walter. Skyler acts a bit bitchy though, and she gets the death wishes.

Normally I'm not one to automatically jump to "that's sexist!", but it amazes me how often central female characters in cable shows have death wished upon them for actions that aren't that different from their male counterparts, while said counterparts are idolized. The list is kind of endless. Betty Draper, Skyler…

I liked it too. I think a lot, but not all, of the criticism of the show is exaggerated. Yeah, it could have easily been condensed into five or six seasons instead of eight, but I can hardly blame them for continuing to make it when it had the ratings it had. Plus, even during Weeds' worst episodes, I've always found…
