It is ambiguous, but the romantic theory of their relationship is based on very little. I think he easily could have just had a platonic relationship with him. If anything, making it romantic seems kind of too predictable.

The latter is a pretty standard joke situation for shows like this. The former is just an easy take on the situation that is funny (and true). I highly doubt they were lifted from Family Guy.

It's the natural cycle of a cult TV show. Two to four seasons of unconditional love from the fan base, followed by ten years or more of disgruntled fans complaining about the show due to a perceived quality drop.

I highly doubt it won't get at least one more production season after 7B (2013). Animated shows like Futurama are profitable in many ways that go beyond the traditional broadcast model. And, if I'm not mistaken, I believe all Comedy Central shows have gone down a bit this summer.

They were funny episodes, but I really feel like Futurama should at least try to stay somewhat grounded in sci-fi. These two episodes could have easily been Simpsons, Family Guy, or American Dad episodes with minor tweaks.

I have to disagree. I think the post Fox television seasons have been more ensemble focused than ever. For example, I don't think Amy or Hermes ever got episodes focused on them in the Fox era with the same frequency they do in the newer seasons.
