Precisely this. People snicker and turn their noses up at my truck because of its plastic dash and fairly spartan trimmings. “The Laramie has a padded dash and is, like, just a bit more expensive” they say. “Shoulda got a Chevy, their dash is nicer” they shout.

My truck - my fucking truck - has a moodlight. It shines from the overhead console down onto the center cupholders/storage bin

Mine, granted it’s a 2017, locks into place like you state. Four hard detents with a rolling lock so it can automatically put it in park and move the detent locations accordingly in case you exit the vehicle in any position that isn’t park.

Well you start in Park. Whether you shut the truck off in drive, neutral or reverse, it reverts itself to park. It’s always park. You can’t move it any further counter-clockwise than park, nor can you move it any further clockwise than drive. The detents are stiff and provide more feedback than you may think.

In practice there are only four positions; PRND. The knob is easy.

Yeah I’m pretty sure the feature was introduced after the Jeep scandal started but I’m grateful for it nonetheless

Funny thing. I’ve shut off, opened the door, and attempted to exit my Ram 1500 (with the ZF and shift dial) while in drive. Not only did it yell and scream bloody murder at me, it shifted itself into park after a couple seconds and let me remove the key.

Truth. FCA’s dial shifters (which should’ve been used instead of this Super Nintendo contraption) are a great setup and pair the PRNDx standard with a space-saving design.

Sixty thousand dollars or more and we still get a tablet superglued to the dash
