It's already going to be a classic. Every major Mercedes sports car becomes a classic.

I agree. This was one of the first breakthrough 63 AMG models. I remember it getting high praise from Car and Driving and scoring well (2nd/4) in a comparo.
This is more of a marketing opportunity than anything else. I think the point was to let the drivers decorate cars, draw attention to the SL (which has sluggish sales), and not break their back with investment.
I never argued the F Type was a club racer. I'd actually prefer people didn't compare the F-Type R to the GT S, as the R is far more of a British muscle car.
Because the GT is generating enough interest on its own. The SL needs some help.
Merc didn't assign the white and black. Lewis chose the color scheme for his car, and Nico chose the color scheme for his.
Mercedes sells lots of cars, for different types of drivers. The gap between their sportiest models and most luxurious models is also found at other brands. BMW's vehicles are becoming increasingly less dynamic, and the M3/M4 vehicles are the sportiest they sell. Even sportier than the i8 by most accounts.
You mean "Black Series"? Also, Mercedes is charging this much because they can. If a buyer is rich enough to afford this, he knows it's a premium over the SL 63 and nonetheless wants to commemorate the F1 win.
The Mercedes-AMG GT has not yet reached production. Also, it doesn't need a special edition to stimulate interest. The SL does. The GT S will still be available, and those who want a focused sports car can buy one without spending $400,000.
It weighs 4,068 pounds. It's not much heavier than some versions of the more compact F-Type.
This post is so sanctimonious, and needlessly resentful. Why does it matter how people use their cars? Would you be this breathlessly hateful about how someone uses his smartphone, or decorates his house?
I agree with almost everything you say except one line: "or as good a grand tourer as the F12 (or even the FF)."
And here's my biggest problem with the F-Type — I still think Aston Martin does cool British cars better. Astons may be older, but I really find them more beautiful, special, and emotional than the F's design. But it's not like the F is so fresh either. It's based on a hacked version of the old XK's platform that goes…
It conceals the rear-facing camera. They were looking back at you on the screens as you were looking at them.
Yeah, he really called it in on this one.
"I'm a lifelong VAG purist…"
They'd still offer the manuals if more people wanted to buy them. The purists are now rallying behind the C7 and 911 — both of which offer manuals and have manual-loving loyalists.
Whoa. I only just found this article.
Join the club. But hold out hope. Maybe you'll have a windfall in 2016 — when the base GT comes to the US.
That's a glass roof. Though a carbon fiber roof is also optional.
