"The 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT is Benz's new 911 fighter, a muscle car GT with a spaceframe chassis..."

Your response could have been a sentence or 20 pages. Either way, you're expressing *your* perspective, as I'm expressing mine. Which is why I'm confused as to why you're 'mansplaining' these fundamentally subjective points as if elaboration will make them facts. Because Monterrey.

It hasn't been done because they're expensive investments to make from a manufacturing standpoint, and they're low-volume cars. They'd rather offer cheaper versions like the SL400 to try to increase sales than spend a lot of money retooling their factories in order to make the vehicles prettier. Once a Mercedes is on

As always, that looks damn good.

The SLK has a long life cycle, so we may not see a facelift until 2016 or so. Both the SLK and SL could do with a good f/l — so they keep up with the rest of the range, which has surpassed them in design.

I believe in style first. I don't have kids and don't care for practicality.

All I'm saying is, people have to have an open mind about the GT. I love the 911 and always will. If given the chance, I'd have one of each variant. But it's a broad segment full of great cars, including the R8 — which wasn't mentioned here.

Lamborghini sells far fewer cars than Ferrari. Ferrari tends to sell around 2000 Californias a year alone. Some years, Lamborghini doesn't sell much more than 2000 units. Remember, they only have two cars on sale at a time.

Person pining after GTR calls AMGs ugly.

It's not classically pretty? Speak for yourself. And funny you use the word classic, since objectively, the GT is more reminiscent of a classic sports car shape than any of the others — long hood, short deck. Rounded tail. Go look at a picture of a 300SL, or Jag E-Type Coupe.

You haven't driven the AMG GT yet, Mr. Automotive Journalist. Now I don't trust you to offer a credible and objective review of the GT.

Most people were going to be oblivious of a sports car debuting in a small German town anyway.

GT doesn't just mean grand tourer. It also refers to a racing classification. There is a GT S model (sound familiar?), and there will be a GT3 model. The true grand tourers Mercedes offers are the SL and S Class Coupe. Both will compete against the 6-series, Maserati GranTurismo, Bentley Continental, and others. By

His ignorance is *startling.*

I'll set aside the fact that MB has one of the most storied racing histories in the whole industry. (Silver arrows ring a bell? 300SL Gullwing? DTM? Le Mans? F1?

And yet, Mercedes platforms are essentially still in use at FCA, and are a major reason for the company's success.

You must be confusing the weight figure with that of the F-Type — a car it will compete against (not any Lotus or Noble).

Mercedes has produced long-hood, short deck sports cars for decades before the Viper's arrival.

Ain't nuthin odd about it.

I'm really hating everyone on this site right now. This car is so epic.
